Miura Haruma, Shinohara Ryoko, and Fujiki Naohito in Last♡Cinderella (or as I call it, Trying to choose between the hottest men possible)

Having already spoken about how tired I am with the recent Korean drama offerings, this past summer, I decided to watch as many Japanese dramas as possible. And boy, did I find some wonderful, giggle-inducing dramas that not only made me stay up much later than any logical human should but also caused me to fall off the bed fangirling (this drama will do that to you).

Last♡Cinderella (ラスト♡シンデレラ) is about a still single thirty-nine year old that is pretty much a Himono Onna that decides after finding a hair growing out of her chin to find love, since in the characters’ logic in the drama, your body forgets that it’s a woman (this part scared me more than a horror movie and I did a double-take in the mirror before bed to see, if in fact I was growing a beard). What entails is hilarious, and very cute shenanigans and that is only between the three leads.

This drama is easily one of my favourites (aside from Rich Man, Poor Woman) because unlike many other dramas out there, this does not shy away from sex. No, this isn’t a constant romp in the sheets, reader (though sheets are involved. And honestly, looking at the male leads, I’m pretty sure this is a very good thing). I can’t even count how many dramas there are where there is little to no kissing, hugging or anything and if there is, it’s pretty damn awkward and usually involves the female lead frozen with wide eyes. I mean, if Fujiki or even Miura kissed me, yeah I’d be wide-eyed but then…well, never mind but I’m pretty sure you know where I’m going with this. And this drama does it exceptionally well. It’s as realistic as this drama could be (since the premise and some of the secondary character’s side stories are just plain silly) and it made me feel like there’s hope for all of us. Plus, if someone as gorgeous as Miura texted me or you, reader, would you know what to say? And how would you act? What if we found someone suddenly that wanted to be with us that they popped up everywhere (not in a creepy way)? Do we trust that they genuinely want to be with us or are there ulterior motives? This drama answers all those questions and it answers them all in an exceptional way.

I’ve never watched a drama where I was so confused as to what lead I wanted the female lead to end up with. I kid you not. Throughout the entire eleven episodes, I jumped between Fujiki and Miura since they’re both hotly amazing but also flawed. And Shinohara Ryoko did an exceptional job conveying her confusion and later on, steadfast surety. There were moments when she was strong, when she cried (and damn it I cried when, in one scene, she came home to her desolate apartment, ate ramen and weeped because she was so utterly alone and lonely) and when she flirted. She was someone that, if I’m still forty and single, would like to be as strong as and hell, if indeed I am in her shoes when I’m forty, can I get my own Last Cinderella love triangle?

I read somewhere that some people didn’t like this drama because of the sex but let me prove to you that this is a very, very good thing. I present to you, dear reader, the evidence for your perusal:

Oh, for the love of–I love how many scenes there are of Miura Haruma without a shirt on. Thank you Drama Gods. Thank you.

What? Not enough for you?

Don't say I didn't warn you.

Still not sold? Man, you’re a tough one, reader.

Does this really need a caption?

Now, if you’re like me and more of a Fujiki Naohito fan, let me show you this (sadly, Miura stole all the shirtless scenes, the bastard).

Can I just say, I would not mind if he touched my face. (I'm trying to keep this PG, reader).

Or if he popped in asking for sugar (do neighbours really do that?)

Not actually going to write a caption because I guess I’m still not over my love for Fujiki and this photo almost hurts to just look at

And if you forgot that I mentioned its also a comedy…

How I think I'll look when I actually try to look good
How I think I’ll look when I actually try to look good

Now, this drama has very strong lead actors with strong stories. But what I did (surprisingly) enjoy was also the secondary characters and their side stories. Oh, don’t get me wrong. There is two secondary characters that I wanted to punch and rip my hair out but what this drama reminds you of constantly and throughout the episodes until the last seconds of this drama, is that each character is their own person with their own morals and choices and has flaws. Do we have to agree with them? No. But we have to respect their choices because just like us, we’re all leading different lives. Are they the right choices? Who the hell knows but it’s that uncertainty that is more realistic and done very well in this drama than in any other drama I’ve previously watched.

I highly recommend you watch this drama, reader. In fact, I’ve already done a re-watch and am planning another one because it’s just that good. Let me know if you’ve watched it, and if you have, what lead did you want her to end up with? What were your favourite scenes and most hated and beloved characters?
